| 28th Febuary 2006 Five D people making a difference in the community Five D volunteers downed their tools on Tuesday 28th February to pitch in and help remove rubbish from the environment as a prelude to Clean Up Australia Day. For the second year in a row, the Five D volunteers conducted an intense clean up of the Berry Island Reserve focusing their efforts on the shore where considerable rubbish is accumulated from the Harbour around the bush-land track. Berry Island was originally an area for local Aboriginal communities to camp and eat. Evidence of the Aboriginal way of life include shell middens and axe grindings which are still visible today. This island was dedicated as a nature reserve for public recreation in 1926. The island reserve looked beautiful as the Five D team left after a good afternoon's clean up. Thank you to those who participated and we hope to see you there again next year. |
